The Victorian Government is planning and building the Metro Tunnel which will transform Melbourne’s rail network into an international-style metro system to increase the capacity, reliability and efficiency of train lines serving Melbourne.
The project will deliver two nine-kilometre rail tunnels from South Kensington to south of South Yarra Station and five new underground stations at Arden, Parkville, CBD North, CBD South and Domain.
The Melbourne Metro Rail Authority has announced the preferred public private partner for the project, and will award the main contract towards the end of 2017, with major works expected to commence in 2018.
Within South Yarra, site preparation works relating mostly to service relocation are underway. Further information in this regard can be accessed at metrotunnel.vic.gov.au or by calling 1800 551 927 (24 hours a day, seven days a week).
