Watch Around Water
Harold Holt Swim Centre is one of 150 Lifesaving Victoria endorsed facilities that promotes the Watch Around Water policy. This means the following guidelines must be followed whilst visiting the centre:
Children under 5 - Must be constantly supervised and remain within arm's reach. If the child is in the water, the parent/guardian must be in the water too.
Children under 10 - Must be accompanied into the facility and constantly supervised by a parent/guardian. The parent/guardian must have a clear view of the child at all times.
The policy states that any parent/guardian supervising a child must be over the age of 16 years.
- The supervision of children in aquatic facilities is not the sole responsibility of lifeguards
- Lifeguards are employed on a 1:100 ratio; this is based on the expectation that parent will provide direct supervision of children
- Parents are required to provide constant and direct supervision needed for young children
Supervison During Learn to Swim Lessons
If your child is under the age of 10, it is a condition of entry that you are actively supervising your child during their lesson. If they are swimming outside of their lesson time, the Watch Around Water Policy applies, as detailed above.
