Press Release | 18 December 2017
This summer, Stonnington’s Summer Reading Club will get children reading simply for the sheer love of it.
The program is geared towards children from 5 to 12 years of age and provides children with small incentives to keep reading during the school holidays.
The City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Steve Stefanopoulos said the Summer Reading Club Program provides a great platform for reading and life-long learning.
“GAME ON is this summer’s reading theme, encouraging children to celebrate our Aussie sporting culture, team spirit and mateship, and also highlight the countries who will be visiting Australia to participate in the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, through reading,” said Mayor Stefanopoulos.
“As a teacher myself, I know the value of reading from an early age, which forms the basis of learning about the world we live in. The Summer Reading Club is an excellent program that rewards children for keeping up their reading habit. The more children read, the more prizes they can score too,” added Mayor Stefanopoulos.
Eligible children who read more than 30 books over the summer break can enter for their chance to win an Apple iPad plus book vouchers, stationery packs and much more.
To join in the reading fun, Stonnington Libraries invite you to register for the Summer Reading Club at stonnington.vic.gov.au/library from 1 December 2017 to 31 January 2018.
If children want more Summer Reading Club fun, they can join the official Australia-wide club to go into the draw for additional prizes. Here they can access activities such as book raves, writing competitions and games. And don’t forget to head on down to our libraries at Malvern, Phoenix Park, Prahran and Toorak/South Yarra during the summer months, and enjoy the wide reading material we have on offer.
