Stonnington gets ready for VIVA Youth Festival

Viva Festival 2017

Princes Gardens will be rocking youth and street culture on Saturday 8 April for the annual VIVA Youth Festival.

Presented by the City of Stonnington and the Soundslike Productions team as a part of National Youth Week, the free festival celebrates youth culture and the important contribution young people make to our community.

The Festival is packed with activities and entertainment such as skateboarding and basketball competitions, a dedicated dance stage, music, street art, workshops and activities, food stalls, prizes and even a mechanical bull.

Activities and entertainment include: 

  • The prestigious VIVA Prahran Skateboarding Competition, featuring divisions in 16/Under Skate, Open Street, Pro-Rider Best Trick Street and Open Vert. Participants can register online and compete for $2,000 in cash prizes and product giveaways
  • The inaugural VIVA Youth Jam basketball competition, run by the renowned crew at MSF Sports, with divisions for 12 and under, 15 and under and 18 and under. Participants can register your team online and compete for some great prize packs from Kickz 101
  • The Bust-a-Move Dance stage with performances and workshops by Funkadelics, Indigenous Hip Hop Projects, BKODE, Melbourne High Soul Power and Freestyle Fever. Freestyle Fever will also facilitate a dance battle with a $500 cash prize, and invite you to get your crew together and register to compete online
  • A live art experience with leading street artist Shem and DJs The Captives, Sensation and Mona Gene mixing fresh beats throughout the day
  • I Scream Nails, creating urban nail art with the kids, Air With Flair with their awesome airbrushed tattoos, face painting with Ozdreamfaces and Bike n Blend, invite you to whip up a delicious and healthy smoothie for free
  • The Soundslike Productions FReeZA program team presenting Acoustic Flavour – a stage devoted to live acoustic acts by young local musicians
  • Food Trucks, featuring Dos Diablos mobile cantina, delectable toasties from Toasta and fancy ice cream creations from My Two Mums

VIVA is a drug, alcohol and smoke-free event.
