Breaking down Barriers 2017

Disability and Equality before the Law

Many people with disability face multiple complex barriers to accessing the justice system. In 2016 the City of Stonnington partnered with St Kilda Legal Service to hold an innovative and informative forum on how to support people with disability to access justice. This event will be repeated in 2017 with exciting speakers from Women with Disabilities Victoria, Disability Discrimination Legal Service,Victoria Police, Reinforce Self Advocacy and more! International Day of People with Disability

Celebrating inclusion and diverse abilities through art

 To celebrate International Day of people with Disability 2016, the City of Stonnington displayed a range of community art submissions at the Phoenix Park Community Centre in Malvern East from 3-10 December 2016 at the Life in my Community art exhibition. We received over 40 fantastic artworks from local community members. You can check them out in the video below!


Hosting accessible events

A guide for organisers has been developed by the Meetings and Events Industry of Australia in collaboration with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC). The guide can be downloaded here .

This guide is designed to help those responsible for organising events to ensure its accessibility for all people in the community. The guide contains practical information and advice on how to make events accessible for people of all abilities, whether they are presenters, sponsors or participants.
