Paying your Rates

When do I need to pay my rates?

Council offers the option of either paying by four instalments or as a single lump sum. Ratepayers who elect to pay in full will receive one notice in August.

If electing to pay by instalments, your first payment (as shown on your rates notice) must be paid by 30 September.  A reminder notice will be sent before each instalment due date.

The due dates for the 2017/2018 year are:

  • 30 September 2017 (instalment 1)
  • 30 November 2017 (instalment 2)
  • 28 February 2018 (instalment 3)
  • 31 May 2018 (instalment 4)

OR

  • 15 February 2018 for full payment

How can I pay my rates?

Payment of your rates account can be processed in a variety of ways — from your smart phone, internet, telephone or in person.

Council offers BPAY, payment via Australia Post or the Commonwealth Bank, and payments sent by post. Details of these payment options can be found on your annual rates and charges notice.

Can I have my payments debited from my Centrelink payment?

Yes. Centrepay is a free direct bill paying service available to ratepayers who receive a Centrelink payment. You can arrange to have deductions made via Centrelink to the City of Stonnington to pay your rates.

Please contact our Rates Department on 8290 1220 for further information or visit Centrelink at www.centrelink.gov.au

I can't afford to pay my rates now.  What are my options?

If you find yourself in financial difficulty and cannot meet the due date for payment, contact the Stonnington Rates Department as soon as possible. You can request to have an extension of time to pay the amount or you can set up your own payment plan, subject to Council approval. Either option must be requested in writing and can be emailed to rates@stonnington.vic.gov.au

Please note that interest does continue to accrue on balances unpaid.
