Heritage Protection for Individual Victorian Houses
The City of Stonnington has prepared Amendment C249 to the Stonnington Planning Scheme.
The Amendment proposes to implement the findings of the Victorian Houses Heritage Study, which recommends the inclusion of fifty-eight individually significant Victorian houses in the Heritage Overlay. These houses are located in Armadale, Glen Iris, Malvern, Malvern East, Prahran, South Yarra, Toorak and Windsor.
Specifically the Amendment:
- Varies the Schedule to Clause 43.01 Heritage Overlay to include fifty-eight places with permanent heritage status.
- Amends Planning Scheme Maps 1HO, 2HO, 3HO, 4HO, 5HO 6HO, 7HO and 9HO to show permanent heritage controls.
Exhibition of the Amendment closed on Monday 26 June 2017. A total of 30 submissions have been received.
Consideration of Submissions
Following consideration of submissions at the Council meeting on 18 September 2017, Council adopted a position in support of Amendment C249, with changes, and resolved to refer the submissions to an independent Panel appointed by the Minister for Planning.
Panel Hearing and Report
The Panel Hearing was held over three days on the 15th, 16th and 17th November 2017.

The Panel Report is located under Documentation. The Panel Report and its recommendations were adopted at a Council meeting in February 2018 and submitted to the Minister for Planning for approval.
The Minister for Planning has approved Amendment C249 as put forward by Council with no changes. The Amendment came into effect on Thursday 7 June 2018.
