Prescribed Accommodation
Registration
If you run, or intend to run, a premises that accommodates more than 5 people at any one time (excluding your immediate family) who are not subject to a Residential Tenancy Agreement, you may be required to register this business with Council under the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009. Businesses that may require registration include:
- Residential Accommodation
- Hotels and Motels
- Hostels
- Student Dormitories
- Holiday Camps
- Rooming Houses (where 4 or more people are accommodated at any one time)
This registration must be renewed annually.

Starting a New Business
Prior to commencing construction or operation, proprietors must submit an Application for Plans Approval, accompanied by two (2) copies of floor plans as specified on the application form.

The plans will be assessed by an Environmental Health Officer, who will also conduct a final inspection of the premises before issuing an Application for Registration form.
Public Health and Wellbeing Act registration will not be granted until the premises meets all requirements of Council's Planning and Building departments.
