According to the latest business activity figures from Yellow Pages the number of businesses in the City of Stonnington is now at 7,774. Apart from the Retail Trade the most prevalent business types are the professional services including Marketing and Business Management, Medical and Dental, Computer, Legal and Accounting and Finance and Investment. The postcodes of Prahran and South Yarra continue to have the greatest concentration of businesses, accounting for over 40% of the total.

A breakdown of the business mix in the municipality by category shows some interesting facts:
