Personal Care Businesses
Registration
Any person wishing to conduct a personal care and body art business in the City of Stonnington must register their premises with Council under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008. Activities that require registration include:
- Hairdressing
- Beauty Therapy
- Manicure/pedicure
- Waxing
- Electrolysis
- Ear Piercing
- Body Piercing
- Tattooing
- Colonic Irrigation
This registration must be renewed annually.
Starting a New Businesses
Prior to commencing construction, potential operators of personal care or body art businesses must first obtain approval for the proposed design and fit-out of the premises from Council's Environmental Health Unit. This is to ensure that the premises complies with the minimum hygiene standards required under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 and related guidelines.

Plans that meet these requirements must be submitted to Council's Environmental Health Unit using the following form:

The plans will be assessed by an Environmental Health Officer, who will also conduct a final inspection of the premises before issuing an Application for Registration form.
Purchasing an Existing Business
If you are purchasing an existing business you will need to transfer the Public Health and Wellbeing Act Registration into your (company) name.
