Hosted by Mike McLeish with Melbourne-based choral ensemble Choristry, Stonnington City Brass and a special guest appearance by Scooby-Doo in the glorious surrounds of Central Park.
Mike is best known for his portrayal of former Prime Minister Paul Keating in the successful production of Keating! The Musical, directed by Neil Armfield. Mike has also appeared in A Largely Fanciful History Of The Spiegeltent in Melbourne as well as performing multiple roles in Eddie Perfect's Shane Warne The Musical.
On screen Mike featured in the debut episode of Offspring for Network Ten, as well as the ABC's hit shows The Librarians and Bed Of Roses.
His cabaret show, The World is Winning, played to sold out audiences at the Butterfly Club, The Famous Spiegeltent in Melbourne, and at the 2012 Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
More recently Mike has joined forces with Rusty Berther (from the iconic comedy team, the Scared Weird Little Guys) to form a new Australian musical comedy duo.
Scooby-Doo is the world's best-loved animated dog from the TV cartoon series Scooby-Doo. Our hero will charm the young, and young at heart, with his hilarious antics.
Verity Hunt-Ballard has fast become one of Australia's most versatile leading ladies. Graduating from WAAPA in 2003, Verity is best known for her award winning performance as Mary Poppins for which she received a Helpmann Award for Best Female Actor in a Musical, a Green Room Award for Best Female Artist in a Leading Role in Music Theatre, and nominations for the Sydney Theatre Award, Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical and a Glug Award nomination, Best Female Actor in Music Theatre – Mary Poppins.
In 2013 Verity made her television drama debut in the ABC series The Doctor Blake Mysteries. Her other credits include Shane Warne The Musical Concert, Jersey Boys, The Rocky Horror Show, Eureka, Virgins with the Malthouse Theatre and the New York Musical Theatre Festival, After the Beep for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Metro Street at the State Theatre Company of SA, for which she won a Theatre Critics Award for Best Female Performance.
Verity is featured on the Shane Warne the Musical Concert Cast Recording, the Mary Poppins Australian Cast Recording which is sold world wide, Eddie Perfect's recording 'Drink Pepsi Bitch' and performs regularly in concert with various orchestras and big bands around Australia. Verity was included in the inaugural edition of the Who's Who of Australian Women 2011. In 2014 Verity will star in the role of Charity in a new production of Sweet Charity for Luckiest Productions.
Rod Davies is one of Australia's most versatile musicians. As a professional vocalist, Rod has worked as both an original artist and a freelance session musician across a wide range of performance roles. He is the lead vocalist on TV's Dancing with the Stars and has worked as a backing vocalist for such Australian musical icons as John Farnham, Tina Arena and Olivia Newton-John. He has experience of contemporary/ pop/ music theatre and classical styles, and has worked as a vocal consultant on The Voice and the Victorian Schools Spectacular. Rod has recently completed postgraduate studies in music performance with a major in jazz/ contemporary voice at Monash University.
Josh Piterman graduated from the University of Ballarat Arts Academy in 2006. Almost immediately he joined the international pop opera sensation The Ten Tenors performing on numerous TV shows and in concert halls, arenas and theatres in every continent. He went on to understudy and perform the role of George in The Drowsy Chaperone alongside Geoffrey Rush for MTC. Following the success of this production, Josh played the lead role of Tony in the Australian national tour of West Side Story. Josh has just returned from his UK debut playing the role of Corny Collins in Hairspray.
For the past five years the ensemble has been performing its diverse repertoire of beautiful choral music at a broad range of events. As well as presenting its own concerts, Choristry performed at Stonnington's Opera in the Park for the past three years, the Australia Day concert at Melbourne's Federation Square in 2009 and has participated in several services at St Paul's Cathedral. All members of Choristry are experienced vocal performers, many of them soloists in their own right.
In 2010 Choristry were a guest choir at the Australian National Choral Association's Choralfest in Port Macquarie and in 2012 travelled to Hobart as a guest choir at Festival of Voices.
Choristy is directed by Trevor Jones, a respected conductor, musical director, singing teacher, accompanist and choral director. As a conductor, Trevor has worked in Opera and Musical Theatre with credits including Orpheus in the Underworld and Don Giovanni (The Opera Studio, Melbourne), Opera in The Park 2010, 2011 and 2012 (City of Stonnington), Dear World (Magnormos Productions), The Last Five Years (Devanesen Productions) and Aida (Devanesen Productions) for which he was nominated for a Guild Award by the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria. In 2011 Trevor was the recipient of the Brian Stacey Award for Emerging Australian Conductors.
Stonnington City Brass
Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Stonnington City Brass is a community brass band based in Malvern. The members of the 30-strong band range from 10 to 85 years of age.
The band has been an audience favourite at Stonnington's Carols concerts for many years and is invited to perform at events throughout the year including Council Citizenship Ceremonies as well as festivals, corporate and private events.
