Public Place Recycling at our Pools

Our pools are going green!

Public Place Recycling is now at the Aquatic Centres.

The City of Stonnington has improved waste management at the Prahran Aquatic Centre and Harold Holt Swim Centre by installing 17 new dual bin units, allowing for patrons to dispose of both waste and recyclables. These bin units, which are made using recycled aluminium content, make it easy for pool guests to recycle at the centres.

Recyclable items currently make up about 40% of the waste produced at the Centres, and through recycling, this can all be diverted from landfill. Recycling reduces landfill and also saves natural resources and energy and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Items which can be recycled at the Aquatic Centres include;

  • plastic bottles and containers (numbers 1 - 7)
  • milk and juice cartons
  • aluminium cans
  • coffee and tea cups
  • paper

Items which cannot be recycled include;

  • food wrappers (including ice-cream wrappers)
  • food scraps
  • plastic bags
  • plastic cutlery
  • serviettes

So when you're next at a Stonnington Aquatic Centre, think green and do your bit for the environment!
