Sustainability

Committed to continually enhancing the sustainability of the City's natural and built environment, Council is responsible for leading and implementing a range of environmental services and initiatives that are designed to protect our assets for generations to come.

	Biodiversity Stonnington recognises that it is a highly urbanised municipality containing only minor pockets of low quality indigenous vegetation and habitat.		Sustainable Transport Council is working towards improving transport, access and movement within the City by promoting and supporting safe, accessible and convenient local destinations, public transport options, and walking and cycling.
	Energy and Climate Change Energy efficiency is integral to reducing costs and the greenhouse impact.		Water Management Council has adopted and is implementing a Sustainable Water Management Strategy that commits Council to reducing its water consumption by 50% by 2010/11.
