Sustainable Transport
The City of Stonnington is located in Melbourne's inner east, and like most urban municipalities, it is affected by high traffic volumes, safety issues, noise and air pollution associated with motor vehicles.
In recognising this Council is working towards improving transport, access and movement within the City by promoting and supporting safe, accessible and convenient local destinations, public transport options, and walking and cycling.
For Council, sustainability means improving the environmental, social and economic quality of life for our residents without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same. Council recognises that transport plays a key role in achieving and promoting sustainability.

Advocating on Behalf of the Community
The transport network in Stonnington forms part of a wider metropolitan system. The system is complex both in terms of the number of its components - trams, trains, buses, bicycle lanes, footpaths etc. - and the number of parties involved - bicycle groups, public transport user groups, state government departments, private companies providing public transport services etc.
Council's role is to represent the interests of Stonnington community to other levels of government and public sector responsible for the provision of transport services, facilities and infrastructure.
Commuter Club
The Commuter Club is a sustainable transport Metlink initiative that the City of Stonnington implemented to encourage staff to travel on public transport by offering a discounted rate on yearly Metcard tickets.
