Adult Day Activity Support Service

The Adult Day Activity Support Service (ADASS), is available to eligible Stonnington residents who require a supportive social activity program with a higher level of care. It also provides regular respite for the carers of those who attend the program.

ADASS provides a structured day activity service, offering full and half-day programs from Monday to Friday. Each day offers a specialist program to meet the particular needs of the individual, which include both activities based at the centre and monthly social outings.

As part of the program, a delicious and nutritious meal is enjoyed in the middle of the day as part of the Centre Based Meals Program, with most special dietary requirements catered to.

The ADASS program is led by caring support staff who, through the activity program, encourage participants to maintain and enhance their living and social skills. Transport to and from home is available.

ADASS has developed five distinct themes to cater for individuals needs for each of the days:

Monday - "The Boys Club"
A program to build confidence and companionship in a male orientated group designed for a diverse range of abilities and needs.

Tuesday - "The Happy Go Lucky Mob"
A program which caters for individuals with a high level of frailty, as well as developing specific programs that relate to older men and women.

Wednesday - "The Wonderful Wednesdays"
This group focuses on older adults with an intellectual disability or a dual disability.

Thursday - "The Emeralds"
A program for older people who have become significantly socially isolated due to social, physical or cognitive disability. For example a stroke, vision impairment or short-term memory loss.

Friday - "Fantastic Fridays"
A specifically targeted group that focuses on older people who have become significantly socially isolated as a result of challenging behaviour. This may be due to a mental illness, an acquired brain injury or dementia that may be the result of alcohol or substance abuse.

The Will Sampson Centre located in Henry Street Windsor is home to the ADASS program and provide a quiet, relaxed and comfortable setting in a park location.

Eligibility

Each person is different and so are his/her needs. A comprehensive activity assessment is completed before the service commences. This assessment considers the eligibility criteria, cost, and safety and ensures that the social activity provided is appropriate to the individual.
