Identifying Land
Each private allotment of land in Stonnington is assigned a specific street (postal) address by Council's Valuer. The owner or occupier is required to mark the assigned number on the property under clause 700 of the Local Law. Correct protocol should also be used by private building surveyors when identifying land in correspondance.
Numbers assigned by Council can be found/confirmed by identifying properties at Land Victoria's 'Landchannel' webpage or by calling Council's Building Permit Registration section on 8290 3218.
Please always use the postal address of the land. Do not include Lot numbers unless they relate to the plan of subdivision (PS) or land parcel (LP) to which they belong. There is no such thing as Lot 5 Smith Street or Lot 5 no 2 Smith Street.
Include the correct suburb. Sometimes the suburb may be misrepresented by the applicant - for example Windsor is often called Prahran and the Chadstone Shopping Centre is often listed as being in Chadstone (it is actually in Malvern East). If in doubt we recommend checking the Melway references below or other mapping systems showing allotments such as Google maps, Google earth, nearmap etc.
