Protection Work Notice Information
From 1 September 2002, Victorian Government organisations and local councils have been mandatorily required to comply with the Information Privacy Act. Use and disclosure of personal information is to be allowed only for the primary purpose for which information was collected or for a secondary purpose that the person would reasonably expect.
As the purpose of serving protection work notices is to provide a right to information regarding protection of property it is considered reasonable to facilitate the process by supplying adjoining owner details. These are provided only upon the request of the relevant building surveyor, who, as an entrusted official, is expected to responsibly use and disseminate the information only for the purposes of Part 7 of the Building Act. Provision of this information is free.
To facilitate the process it is desirable that the correct addresses of adjoining properties are identified. Land Victoria's 'Landchannel' property mapping system can be used for this purpose as it uses the same land identification system as Council.
Disclaimer
Please note that Council information is issued subject to a requirement that the user will protect the information from misuse, loss or unauthorised access, modification or disclosure and that, as the information contained in the Rates register may have been collected from documentation provided by others, Council does not warrant the accuracy of the information.
