Cranes over public land
General Information
Applications for the issue of Local Law permits for the use of cranes (which includes any encroachment of a crane's jib or stabilising legs) and other hoisting devices over Council land are to be made to Council's Building Local Law Permits & Compliance at the Prahran offices - Cnr Chapel & Greville Streets Prahran - by post to PO Box 21 Prahran 3181 or email building@stonnington.vic.gov.au.
Application Requirements
- A completed and signed permit application form.
- A fully dimensioned and detailed site plan.
- A fully detailed traffic management plan.
- If any temporary obstruction, occupation or change to the normal footpath or road conditions denies access (as defined in Council's
Standard applicable to building operators.doc (135.00 KB), a written submission is to be provided outlining the reasons obstruction is unavoidable.
- Evidence of a public liability insurance policy with minimum cover of $10,000,000 and agreement to maintain the cover for the period of the permit.
- Where a crane encroaches over land of a third party (a) evidence of written consent (license) by the owner of the airspace to the person responsible and, (b) where there is a building permit, clarification of whether protection work under the Building Regulations is required by the relevant building surveyor (rbs) and, if so, his/her administration of Building Act requirements.
- A manufacturer's certificate of compliance for any concrete panels to be hoisted.
Applications should be lodged at least 2 weeks prior to proposed commencement of work to enable processing. Where an application relates to full street closure it should be lodged at Council at least 3 weeks prior to proposed commencement to enable Council to organise written notification to affected properties.- Download the application form for a Local Law Permit to use a crane over Council land.
Fees
$155.00 per day crane is to be used over a street.
