Road Asset Protection Program

Council has a Road Asset Protection Program for maintenance and protection of its assets (which include road kerbs & channels, footpaths, nature strips and rights of way) during building works.

Council's Local Law requires that a permit must be obtained where activities may cause damage to those assets. A fee is charged to partially meet the costs of Council's Authorised Officer inspecting the road surroundings before and after building works to assess the condition of Council assets.

A security deposit (monetary bond) is also required in case there is damage during building works which may need to be repaired. Payment is acknowledged with a form to the owner to be sent back once work is complete.

If, after inspection following notice of completion, Council's Authorised Officer is satisfied that no damage to Council assets was caused as a result of the work the bond will be refunded in full. If damage occured to Council assets the bond is used to cover the cost of repairs.

It is highly recommended that landowners and builders reach an agreement as to the costs and responsibilities under this program.
