Residential Areas

Tradesperson Permit - Residential (Short Term)

Permits are issued by Council's Customer Service Centres - ph 8290 1333. They are issued for up to 4 weeks only unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Residential - Single Dwellings

  • Are issued for a minimum period of 4 weeks
  • Allocate the parking spaces adjacent to the property frontage
  • Operate between 7am - 3pm Monday to Friday

$460 this includes $230 for the cost of the signs and a $230 refundable deposit held against damage or loss of the signs. Applications can be made for a period of upt to 3 months, after which extensions of time may be granted at a cost of $15 per month.

Residential - Multiple Dwellings

  • $460 ($230 signage cost + $230 refundable bond) plus: 
  • .60c per car space or part thereof occupied per hour. If unmarked a carspace is deemed to be 6m in length. A minimum carspace charge of $300 applies for the initial permit period.

Commercial Areas

Tradesperson Zone - Commercial

A tradesperson's zone permit to occupy carspaces is available for a projec within a commercial area that will take 4 weeks or less. Such permits:

  • Allow builders or tradespersons vehicles to occupy up to 2 car spaces at the front fo the site or the closest legal parking pay to the site
  • Are applicable between 7am - 3pm, Monday to Friday, excluding clearway times
  • Are charged a fee based on off street car park rates, $1.20 per carspace occupied, per hour
  • Permits must be displayed in a plastic pocket hung from the rear vision mirror of each car parked in the occupied area.
  • Permits and plastic pockets must be collected in person from the Prahran Town Hall offices prior to the commencement of the permit period
  • Only one extension beyond the initial permit period may be applied for. If granted it will be charged at $40 plus the $1.20 per carspace per hour rate.

Works Zone Permits

For projects lasting more than 4 weeks works zone permits should be applied for. Commercial works zone permits will:

  • Allow builder's vehicles to occupy the carspaces adjacent to the frontage of the site
  • Are applicable between 7am - 3pm, Monday to Friday, excluding clearway times
  • The charges for a coomercial works zone permit are: $460 ($230 signage cost + $230 refundable bond) plus$1.20 per carspace or part thereof in the works zone per hour. If unmarked a carspace is deemed to be 6m in length. A minimum carspace charge of $300 applies for the initial permit period.

Extensions beyond the initial permit period may be considered. If granted they will be charged at $1.20 per carspace or part thereof per hour.

Should an application not be approved, any charge for signage and deposit, save $100, will be refunded. A notification fee may also be applicable if notification of neighbours is required. Also, if a permit is issued, but the duration of occupation exceeds the time permitted, the signs will be removed unless the permit is renewed. Any reinstatement of the signs, if permitted, will require a new application, fees etc.
