Tips to prevent theft from your motor vehicle

  1. Always take your valuables and personal belongings with you;
  2. Never leave laptop computers, mobile phones, money and cameras behind; and
  3. Take important documents such as registration papers and identity cards with you when you leave your car - don't let thieves steal your identity. If you must leave items in your car, lock them in the boot.

Tips to prevent theft of your motor vehicle

  1. Close windows, lock your doors and take all keys with you when leaving your car, even for a minute;
  2. Always use off-street parking (when available), and park in a well-lit and secure area at night;
  3. Use a steering wheel lock or alarms and install an immobilising device - such as fuel cut off switches and engine disabler; and
  4. Keep your car's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and a complete description in a safe place at home. You will need to provide these to police if your car is stolen.
