Car Theft Prevention
Tips to prevent theft from your motor vehicle
- Always take your valuables and personal belongings with you;
- Never leave laptop computers, mobile phones, money and cameras behind; and
- Take important documents such as registration papers and identity cards with you when you leave your car - don't let thieves steal your identity. If you must leave items in your car, lock them in the boot.
Tips to prevent theft of your motor vehicle
- Close windows, lock your doors and take all keys with you when leaving your car, even for a minute;
- Always use off-street parking (when available), and park in a well-lit and secure area at night;
- Use a steering wheel lock or alarms and install an immobilising device - such as fuel cut off switches and engine disabler; and
- Keep your car's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and a complete description in a safe place at home. You will need to provide these to police if your car is stolen.
