Pools and Spas

Council conducts regular testing on pools and spas to ensure all public swimming pools and bathing waters within the city are safe for public use.Proprietors of public swimming pools and bathing waters must make sure that appropriate maintenance is carried out on pools and spas to prevent the transmission of infectious organisms.

The Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009 state that proprietors of pools and spas must prevent the spread of infectious diseases by conducting appropriate maintenance.

Infectious organisms can often be found in pool water. Organisms that are found in pool water can cause health problems such as ear, nose, throat and gastrointestinal infections. Ineffective maintenance in spas can also lead to the spread of Legionnaire's disease.
