Cultural Diversity Grants Program

The City of Stonnington is proud to support older people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. More than one third of people aged 55 years and over in Stonnington are from a CALD background. Council embraces multiculturalism and understands the need for older CALD people to enjoy social support in their own languages and according to their own customs, so that they are not socially isolated.

In recognising the role of CALD senior citizens clubs in the provision of social support services to CALD older people, Council invites Clubs to apply for a grant through the ‘Cultural Diversity Grants Program’ .The new grants program is an update of the previously known ‘Cultural Meals Program’. This is an exciting new development whereby CALD senior citizen clubs can apply for a grant from Council to cover costs for activities such as: the provision of meals/refreshments; social, recreational and cultural activities; outings; information sessions and so on.

Senior Citizen CALD Clubs can apply for a Cultural Diversity grant if they are registered, incorporated organisations and have current public liability insurance. At least 85% of the members must be aged 55 years and over and a least 50% of the club members must reside in the City of Stonnington. The preferred language spoken by Club members is a language other than English. If serving food, then the Clubs must meet in a Council approved facility and adhere to Council’s food safety guidelines. If Clubs previously received funds through the Cultural Meals Program, they are encouraged to reapply for a grant through the Cultural Diversity Grants Program.

Clubs can apply to the City of Stonnington for a grant at any time of the year and they will be notified of the outcome soon after.
