Sustainable Transport Policy

The City of Stonnington Sustainable Transport Policy (2008), aims to create an integrated, sustainable, safe, convenient, and accessible transport network, that responds to the municipality’s unique style and character, minimises impact on the environment and overall amenity, enhances livability, promotes well being, vitality and prosperity and benefits all users.

smart travelThe Sustainable Transport Policy (2008) is doing this by:

  • Reducing car dependence and its impacts;
  • Improving pedestrian, cycling and public transport connections and accessibility;
  • Improving safety;
  • Raising the profile of walking, cycling and public transport and the health and environmental benefits;
  • Involving the community in the development of strategies, plans and initiatives;
  • Advocating for the provision of services, facilities and infrastructure which are outside of Council’s control;
  • Building relationships that promote sharing of knowledge and resources;
  • Providing leadership through Council programs and activities; and
  • Developing monitoring regimes to measure behaviour change.
