Pets and Wildlife

Pets and wildlife can bring much joy to family life. For the benefit of both pet and owner, the City of Stonnington endorses Responsible Pet Ownership. This includes registering your pet and abiding by Council laws regarding walking your dog on a lead and disposing of their waste appropriately.

Found Dogs and Cats

Found or wandering dogs and cats and nuisance animal behaviour can be reported to:

	Animal Pound The City of Stonnington Pound is located in Weir Street, Malvern.		Wildlife Guidelines and support services in place to deal with the management and welfare of local wildlife.
	Keeping Extra Dogs The City of Stonnington General Local Law 2008 (No.1) allows for the keeping of a specific number of domestic animals without a permit.		Pet Registration All cats and dogs in Stonnington are required by law to be registered.
	Domestic Animal Business Permit A Domestic Animal Business Permit is required from Council if you wish to conduct an animal business		Exercise Off Lead Nominated parks where dogs can be exercised off-lead.

Exercising your dog off-lead conditions

Dogs may be exercised off-lead in nominated parks provided the owner carries a chain, cord or leash, sufficient to bring the dog under effective control if the dog behaves in a manner which threatens any person or animal.

Dogs are prohibited from:

• Sports grounds during sports club and school training and match times; and
• Defined children's playground areas.
