Bees
Honeybees form swarms as part of the establishment of new hives and colonies. Swarming generally occurs in spring or early summer. Swarms in open areas can easily be caught and hived by people who are experienced at handling bees.
Bee keeping
The keeping of bees is governed by a Code of Practice adopted in 1997. The code establishes rules relating to beehive locations, number of hives that can be kept and correct management practice.
All beekeepers (one or more hives) must be registered with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.
