Ducks

Dealing with stray ducks

If ducks have wandered into onto your property, discourage them by taking away their sense of security. Do not feed them and cover your pool etc. They will normally move on when ready. Do not try to trap them or separate the ducklings from the adult ducks as if is very stressful on the animals and detrimental to their health.

Ducks are protected wildlife

There is no set way of dealing with ducks. If there is a family of ducks (i.e. ducklings and mother) and you are concerned for their welfare, it is best to get a licenced person/organisation to relocate them as there is a risk that the mother could abandon the ducklings if you try to relocate them in a manner which distresses the mother.

If the mother has abandoned the ducklings, ring:
Wildlife Care Network on 0500 540 687
They are a volunteer group geared to take ducklings into their care. That is, they will rear and introduce them back into the environment one they are ready.

The City of Stonnington does not rescue ducks.

Removal of ducks

Wait for a couple of days as the ducks are likely to leave of their own accord. If you have reported the matter to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, a Wildlife Duty Officer will come out after a couple of days.
