Bin Placement

Council's Local Law was introduced in 2004 and states that garbage bins can be placed out at 3pm the day before collection and must be returned before midnight the day of collection.

The Local Law was introduced to maintain pedestrian and disabled access and community safety, particularly in parts of the City where there are very narrow streets. Bins that are left out for long periods of time (i.e several days) create access issues especially in high density residential areas with narrow footpaths. The issue is one that has been raised by residents.

Council will continue to work with residents and advise of the Local Law and the reason for compliance. It is not Council's intention to issue on the spot fines, instead Council will continue to educate and create an awareness of the requirements of the Local Law and why it was introduced.
