Garbage

Did you know - wasteThe City of Stonnington provides weekly garbage collection. A choice of two bin sizes are offered for household garbage - 120 or 240 litre. If items cannot be re-used, recycled or composted, please place them in your garbage bin.

The following must not be placed in your garbage bin:

  • Hot ashes
  • Oil
  • Paint
  • Solvents
  • Any other liquids
  • Syringes
  • Unwrapped vacuum dust
  • Timber and other building materials

Please note:

  • No extra bags will be collected
  • Don't overfill bin, as this leads to litter on our streets
  • Bag all domestic garbage to prevent spillage during collection

Visit Virtual Map's website to find details of your local waste and recycling collection day. Alternatively, download a copy of Council's Recycling Calendar for 2010 - 11.

Have you got a Garden?

Recycling your garden waste is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment. The average Stonnington 240 litre waste bin contains 26.1% recyclable garden waste. Removing this material from your waste bin could result in a huge reduction in the amount of waste going to landfill, reduce the amount of methane produced in landfill and allow valuable resources to be processed into quality mulches and compost.
