Garden Waste
Recycling garden waste reduces your impact on the environment. The average Stonnington 240 litre bin contains 26.1% recyclable garden waste. Removing this material from your garbage bin could result in a huge reduction in the amount of waste going to landfill, reduce the amount of methane produced in landfill and allow valuable resources to be processed into quality mulches and compost.
Council offers a user pays Garden Waste Services to residents. 120-litre or 240-litre burgundy bins are provided to participants. (Hint: Keep the same fortnightly bin capacity but save money by applying for a 120L garbage bin and a 240L garden waste bin to replace your 240L garbage bin.)
Garden waste is collected fortnightly on the same day as your garbage. Visit Virtual Map's website to find details of your waste and recycling collection day.
Fees and Charges:
Application Fee: $20
Annual Charge - 2011/12:
120-litre bin = $75.20 per year
240-litre bin = $101.70 per year
The above fee and charges apply to residential property services. Commercial and other non-residential property services incur GST on top of the values.
Call Council's Service Centre 03 8290 1333 to participate or to enquire about multiple bins per household.
