Say What…? gives young people an opportunity to get involved in decision-making about issues that affect them. Come along to have your voice heard and make a real and valuable contribution to the community.
- Design and conduct consultations with other young people
- Develop skills in public speaking, communication, report writing, problem solving and more
- Talk about things that are important to you
- Learn about the City of Stonnington and local government
- Eat good food and hang out with other interesting young people
In 2012, Say What...? will design, develop and run a consultation with young people aged 8-14 years old. This information will then be fed back to relevant Council departments with a set of recommendations created by the group. All sessions will run on Thursdays from 4.00pm-5.30pm at Stonnington Youth Services, Level 1, 22 Little Chapel St, Prahran unless otherwise specified. The year will begin with a series of training sessions, to help participants get to know one another, and to prepare them for the activities that they will be involved in:
- Welcome and induction, overview of the year ahead, findings from the Youth Issues Needs analysis
- Team building, group work and group dynamics, facilitated by Holly Carpenter, School Focused Youth Service Coordinator
- Visit to Malvern Town Hall, meet with the Mayor and CEO, learn about the City of Stonnington
- Consultations - why, what and how, facilitated by Linda Randall, Youth Affairs Council of Victoria
- Say What...? consultation - what do we want to know and how will we find it out
Past projects this group has been involved with
- Development and publication of a Youth Services Directory - a handbook of support services for young people
- Research and publication of Youth Issues report presented to Council
- Development and delivery of the Youth Issues Needs Analysis conducted across the Cities of Stonnington, Glen Eira and Port Phillip in partnership with School Focused Youth Service
