Malvern Marlins
The 'Malvern Marlins' is a Masters Swimming Club whose members swim for friendship, fitness and fun.
Who are the Marlins?
The Malvern Marlins is a Masters Swimming Club based at the Harold Holt Swim Centre. The club belongs to the international organisation of Masters Swimming. The Marlins currently have over 100 members. The club was founded in March 1990 and from its early days has had a strong membership of active members who enjoy both swimming and a variety of social activities throughout the year.
The Marlins offer two evening training sessions, three morning sessions and an aerobic swimming session each week. We welcome new members, aged twenty and over, who are interested in improving their swimming fitness and skill. Stroke correction and coaching in swimming technique are offered at our training sessions. Regular attendance increases your fitness level.
For those interested in competing, the Marlins have a history of success in interclub, state and national competitions. The Marlins won the State Long Course and Short Course Trophies in 1999-2005, coming 1st or 2nd in 2006-2008, winning the National Trophy in 2001 and the State Aerobic Trophy in 2000 -2007. Competition is based around your nominated time and competing against people in your own age group (e.g. 20-24, 45-49 years etc.). Many members enjoy the fun, atmosphere and challenge of competition, in both the pool and open water, while others enjoy participating in club training sessions to improve their fitness and choose not to compete.
Social activities are an important part of being a member of the Marlins. Dinners, barbecues and brunches are organised during the year, as well as informal after-training get-togethers for coffee, drinks or pizza.
