Water Conservation at the Prahran Market
The City of Stonnington, in partnership with the Prahran Market, has implemented a water conservation project at the Prahran Market to achieve savings in the use of potable water through the substitution of stormwater.
The innovative project, which was part funded through a grant provided by the State Government's Stormwater and Urban Water Conservation fund, included the installation of a rainwater harvesting system and changes to resource management practices. It has been observed that these changes will save the market approximately 16 ML of potable water per year.
Twenty tanks with a total capacity of 61,000L were installed which included a tank system under the market floor for end of day washdowns and a 5,000L tank at the Prahran Market nursery.
