Council Election

The Council General Election will be held on 27 October 2012. All Councillor positions for the three Wards will be subject to the election process.

Please note this will be attendance voting and voting is compulsory.

Further details will be posted later in the year on locations of booths, postal and early voting. An election office will be opened at Stonnington City Centre (Malvern Town Hall) – Banquet Room in mid-September 2012.

Interested in standing for Council?

The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) has an information site that will assist you with your queries (it is being revised for 2012) and can be found at www.standforcouncil.com.au.  The MAV will also be conducting a Information Session at Stonnington later in the year.

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) will be conducting the election for Council. The schedule of key dates is on their website at www.vec.vic.gov.au

The VEC will hold an information session later in the year for prospective candidates to enable people to understand the legislative requirements that need to be fulfilled to be able to stand for council.

The Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) also hosts information for prospective candidates with particular focus on women for 2012 at www.vlga.com.au

Nominations will open on 20 September and close at 12noon on 25 September 2012.
