Profile

Cr Tim Smith was first elected to Council in November 2008 as a representative for South Ward. At 26 he was elected the City of Stonnington's youngest Mayor in December 2009. Cr Smith believes passionately in public service. He was a member of the Australian Rowing team from 2003-2006, winning a bronze medal at the 2004 World Championships.

Cr Smith has a Masters in International Politics from the University of Melbourne and has studied at the London School of Economics. He has worked for the Shadow Home Secretary in the UK and for various Federal and State members of Parliament in Australia.

Cr Smith pledged to tackle five major issues:

  • Sustainability;
  • Early childhood development;
  • Public safety;
  • Financial responsibility; and
  • Community advocacy.

I believe passionately that your potential is not determined by your postcode, that respect for others, the law, and the institutions that have made this nation what it is - particularly the family, are vital for the continuation of a civil, modern and caring society.
