I have seen an advertisement. What is the Success Profile and Inherent Requirements?

The Success Profile is a description of what the position involves as well as the desired skills, experience and qualifications needed to do the job.

The Inherent Requirements are the physical tasks that the position involves.

It is important that candidates review both documents before applying to ensure they believe they can safely carry out the requirements of the role.

Can I ask questions about the position before I apply?

Absolutely. In the live advertisement there is always a contact listed. This is usually the line manager that the role reports to.

Who do I contact if I have questions about applying or using the online system?

Our Talent Acquisition team can be help you through the application process.

We have different Talent Acquisition Advisors for different areas of the business so please call our call centre on 03 8290 1333. Let them know the role you are interested in and ask to speak to a Talent Acquisition Advisor.

If we are not available, leave a message and we will give you a call back.

I don’t have a computer could I post in a paper application?

We are no longer able to accept paper applications. If you do not have a computer or internet access at home, consider your local library.

Can I apply after the closing date?

Applications close at 11.55 pm (AEDT) on the closing date unless otherwise stated. After this time, you will not be able to submit an application online.

If you are still part way through your application when it reaches the closing time, your application will not be submitted successfully. We are unable to accept late applications.

How do I attach documents?

When you select 'Apply' you will be prompted to upload a resume and cover letter. Both are mandatory for all applications. You will also have the option to add any additional documents up to a maximum of three.

Documents can be submitted in doc, docx or pdf format and should not exceed 5MB.

Please do not attach any confidential or personal information such as copies of passports or ID documents.

Do you accept applications when there's no role advertised or keep resumes on file for future considerations?

We do not accept unsolicited applications.

We can only accept applications for roles which are advertised. Please submit an application via our application system, Elmo, for each vacancy you are interested in.

Can I withdraw my application, cancel my account or change my documents?

Once you have applied for a vacancy you are unable to change your documents (cover letter and resume). If you have made a mistake in a document, wish to withdraw your application or cancel your account then please contact our Customer Service team on 03 8290 1333.

Once I apply what happens next?

If your application has been successfully uploaded to our online system, you will receive an automated email notification confirming receipt of your application.

If you do not receive a confirmation email, or if you receive an error message, please contact the Talent Acquisition team on 03 8290 1333.

Once your application has been received, you can expect to hear back with two weeks after the advertisement has closed (not two weeks from when you applied).

If you are shortlisted to be considered for an interview a phone screen may be conducted where someone will call to ask some short questions to get to know you a bit more and why you applied for the role.

If you are not selected to be considered for an interview then you will receive an email advising you are unsuccessful and your application is not progressing.

What does the interview process involve?

If you are selected for an interview you will be called to be invited and advised of a date time and location or method of interview Interviews are either face to face or via Microsoft Teams.

You will receive an email confirmation of your interview. Please call the hiring manager if you are unable to attend the interview, wish to cancel or need to reschedule.

There will be two or three people on the panel and interviews may go for 30 minutes up to one hour, including question time. The interview duration will depend on the role being recruited for.

Questions asked are often behavioural based questions where you will be asked to highlight your skills or experience with a story about something you have done previously. Your response should include the situation, the task, the action and the result.

Are there any other requirements I should be aware of?

All employees at the City of Stonnington are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and obtain a satisfactory police check outcome, suitable to the position requirements.

If you progress past the interview stage you will be asked to provide your COVID-19 vaccination certificate and any licenses and qualifications that may be required for the role, as listed in the Success Profile which is attached to the job advertisement.

Some roles may require a psychometric assessment or pre-employment medical. If this is potential barrier, please contact a member of the Talent Acquisition Lead on 03 8290 1333.

We will refer you for a police check and any other required pre-employment checks at no additional cost to you.

You will be requested to provide two referees from previous employers if you progress to the final stage of the process.
