Union Street Windsor Streetscape Improvements

Council is undertaking streetscape improvements to Union Street, Windsor to improve the public realm within Chapel Street. This is part of the Chapel Street Masterplan program to create more attractive and vibrant spaces and to stimulate the local economy.

The new space will create a greener and more active environment for residents and businesses. The wider footpaths will create a safer and more activated environment, and provide more opportunities for café dining and retail trade opportunities.

The space will feature new street trees and garden beds, wider bluestone footpaths on both sides of Union Street, new kerb outstands, new public seating and bicycle hoops.

Construction of the streetscape improvements will begin in late April - early May 2021. More details to be provided closer to the commencement of works.

Scope of works

The new space will feature:
  • 11 new street trees and garden beds
  • Wider bluestone footpaths on both sides of Union Street
  • New kerb outstands where Union Street intersects Chapel Street
  • New public seating and bicycle hoops

In order to accommodate these improvements, nine one hour parking bays will be removed.

Council released the draft concept plans for this space in October 2019. Feedback was sought via a community drop-in session, individual meetings with stakeholders and feedback forms sent to surrounding residents and businesses.

Of the 31 responses received, the feedback included the need for more street trees, and support for bluestone paving, wider footpaths, and more seating.
