Work Experience Programs

The City of Stonnington offers work experience placements for secondary and tertiary students in various Council Departments with the aim to accommodate as many as possible with our available resources. We recognise and understand the importance of work experience and the benefits it provides to both students and the City of Stonnington.

Tertiary placements

Many tertiary students are required to complete a work placement as part of their studies. Tertiary placements provide the opportunity to apply academic learning in the workplace, and develop work readiness, key skills and knowledge.

Tertiary placements must be a requirement as part of course completion and endorsed by the tertiary institute.

Work experience

Our work experience offers secondary students the opportunity to develop their subject-based skills, learn about the industry and the workplace, explore possible career options, and enhance interpersonal and communication skills.

Currently all placements for people under 18 years old have been put on hold while Council implements new measures to meet the new Child Safe Standards.

These new measures will ensure compliance with the new Standards, which aim to protect young children in the work place.

Please regularly check this page for updates on Council’s Workplace Experience Program. For more information about the new Child Safe Standards, please visit the Department of Human Services
