19 November  Notice of road closures

Parts of Izett and Cato streets (between Wattle and Chatham streets) will be closed for concrete pouring to the Cato Square development site during the week 19 to 23 November.

Izett Street between Wattle and Chatham streets will be closed on Wednesday 21 and Friday 23 November.

Cato Street between Wattle and Chatham streets will be closed on Tuesday 20 November.

Local traffic, trader and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

16 November 

Expressions of Interest – Cato Square retail leasing opportunities
Contract No. T19019 – Lease of Cato Square northern tenancies
 

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are invited from professional and highly capable food and beverage operators for two retail leasing opportunities at the northern end of the Cato Square urban park.

The initial contract term is for up to 10 years for tenancy one and seven years for tenancy two.

EOI documentation is only be available for inspection and download from the City of Stonnington’s eProcurement TenderLink website

Submissions close 12 noon, Monday 10 December 2018.

Late submissions will not be accepted.

EOIs must be lodged via the TenderLink website.  They will not be accepted by facsimile, mail or any other means.


9 November  Notice of road closures

Parts of Izett and Cato streets (between Wattle and Chatham streets) will be closed for concrete pouring to the Cato Square development site during the week 12 to 16 November.

Izett Street between Wattle and Chatham streets will be closed on Monday 12, Wednesday 14 and Friday 16 November.

Cato Street between Wattle and Chatham streets will be closed on Tuesday 13 November.

Local traffic, trader and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

2 November  Notice of road closures

29 October

Kane Construction Update #13
The basement level suspended slab and ramp to ground level is now complete, with the ground level structure well underway.

From 1 to 31 October:

  • Final B1 slab poured
  • Suspended slabs on ground continuing
  • Wattle Street canopy construction underway
  • Cato raking structure commenced
  • Streetscape works (Cato Street between Commercial Road and Wattle Street) continuing

17 October 

Cato Square Site visit
On Wednesday 17 October, Councillors John Chandler and Matthew Koce together with CEO Warren Roberts and members of the Cato Square Steering Committee were treated to a Cato Square site visit.

After signing in and donning the required safety gear (steel-cap boots, hard hat and hi-vis vest) the group, accompanied by Kane Construction employees, were given a tour of the two levels of basement car park and the top deck where the parkland elements are in the early stages of construction.

12 October

4 October

4 October 

Citipower works - Wattle Street temporary closure to pedestrians
Citipower works to install new power cables to a substation near the Cato Square site will require temporary closure of pedestrian access to Wattle Street from Cato Street.

It is expected pedestrian access to Woolworths from Cato Street will be unavailable from 12 noon to 4pm on either Friday 5 or Saturday 6 October.

During the works controls will be in place to management traffic and pedestrian movements.

27 September

Izett Street - Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 October
Izett Street will be closed between Wattle and Chatham streets.  Concrete pump set-up will occur before concrete pumping work commences at 7am.  Work will be carried out from 7am to 5.30pm.  Access to car park and driveways, local trader and business access and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

24 September

Cato Street - improvement works
Construction of the improvement works to the streets surrounding Cato Square have commenced.

The first stage of works will see Cato Street between Commercial Road and Wattle Street upgraded with new footpath, kerbing and the road pavement.  To ensure vehicle and pedestrian access is maintained, works will be carried by closing one half of the street at a time.

At the end of the stage the street will close for several hours to allow application of the final bitumen seal.

It is expected this stage will take between 6-8 weeks to complete.

21 September 

Notice of Road Closures
Road closures around Cato Square will be in place during the week 24 to 28 September to accommodate major concrete pours to the development site.

Cato Street - Monday 24 September
Cato Street will be closed between Wattle and Chatham streets.  Concrete pump set-up will occur before concrete pumping work commences at 7am.  Work will be carried out from 7am to 5.30pm.  Access to car parks and driveways, local trader and business access and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Izett Street - Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 September
Izett Street will be closed between Wattle and Chatham streets.  Concrete pump set-up will occur before concrete pumping work commences at 7am.  Work will be carried out from 7am to 5.30pm.  Access to car park and driveways, local trader and business access and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

17 September 

Have your say to help name the Cato Street urban parkland

Complete the online survey to share your connection with the Prahran area, and help Council decide a name for the Cato Street urban parkland.

Cato Square has been used as the project’s working title, but we are now looking for a permanent name for the urban parkland that sits at the centre of the Chapel Street and Commercial Road retail and entertainment precincts.

At the close of the survey the results will be used as valuable insights to inform the naming process.

The survey will close on Friday 12 October.


13 September

Cato Street will be closed between Wattle and Chatham streets from 7am to 5.30pm on both days.  Pedestrian and local trader vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Kane Construction Update # 11

Cato Street will be closed to traffic between Wattle Street and Priceline Pharmacy from 7am to 5.30pm on Wednesday, 15 August.  Pedestrian and local trader vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Izett Street - Thursday, 16 August
Izett Street will be closed to traffic between Wattle Street and Pierrick Boyer Cafe from 7am to 5.30pm on Thursday, 16 August.  Vehicle access to private car parks from Chatham and Greville streets and St Edmonds Road will be maintained, as will pedestrian access.  The Woolworths car park will remain open and can be entered from the Commercial Road end.

Cato Street - Friday, 17 August
Cato Street will be closed to traffic between Chatham Street and Priceline Pharmacy from 7am to 5.30pm on Friday, 17 August.  Pedestrian and local trader vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Closures to roads around the Cato Square site will be needed over four days for the week 6 to 10 August.

Izett Street between Wattle and Chatham streets will be closed to through traffic from 7am on: Tuesday 7 August | Wednesday 8 August | Friday 10 August

Access to private driveways within the construction zone will be available from Chatham and Greville streets and St Edmonds Road.  Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

The Woolworths car park will be open and accessible from the Commercial Road end of Izett Street.

Cato Street between Chatham Street and Priceline Pharmacy will be closed to through traffic from 7am on: Thursday 9 August

Local trader and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Kane Construction Update # 10

Notice of Road Closure
Izett Street between Wattle and Chatham streets will be closed to traffic from 7am to 5.30pm on Wednesday 18 July.

The closure is needed to make room for a mobile concrete pump that will be pumping concrete into the Cato Square carpark.  Approximately 1000m2 of carpark will be constructed on the day.

Under traffic management control access will be permitted to private car parks from Chatham and Wattle streets and St Edmonds Road.

The Woolworths car park will be accessible from Commercial Road.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Upcoming road closure
Cato Street will be closed to traffic from 7am-6pm on Monday 4 June as a tower crane is established for the project, a project update was distributed to businesses on Cato and Chatham streets on 18 May.

Please note - initial notice of this road closure was given for Wednesday 30 May but the work was delayed.

Council is seeking expressions of interest for a public artwork commission within Cato Square once construction is completed in 2019. More information

Parking shuttle bus cancelled 
After an initial trial during the first three months of construction, the Cato Square parking shuttle bus was cancelled due to a lack of passengers. See information on where to park while the Cato Street car park is unavailable.

We've worked with businesses on Izett Street to implement some 15 minute parking spaces, creating a mix of free short term and long term on-street parking options while we redevelop the Cato Street car park.

Overnight works in area
South East Water will undertake overnight works on Cato Street, Wattle Street and Izett Street from Sunday 4 February to Wednesday 7 February to replace sewer mains. These are taking place at night to limit the effect on the local traffic.

Free parking shuttle bus on the road 
The Cato Square free parking shuttle bus is on the road, a week ahead of construction starting on 15 January.

Operating Monday to Saturday on a 40 minute loop the fully accessible bus will link up alternative parking while the Cato Street car park is unavailable. Starting each day at 9am at 33 Chapel Street, Windsor the bus will circuit:

  • 33 Chapel Street, Windsor (Windsor Rail Bridge)
  • 11 James Street, Windsor (James Street car park)
  • 281 Chapel Street, Prahran (Cato Street area)
  • 32 Elizabeth Street, South Yarra (Prahran Market)
  • 1 Wilson Street, South Yarra (Jam Factory)
  • 388 Chapel Street, South Yarra
  • 302 Chapel Street, Prahran (Cato Street area)

The last bus for the day will depart 33 Chapel Street, Windsor at 4:10pm.

Information for traders
See our January 2018 trader update that will be distributed to businesses bordering the Cato Street car park.

Kane Constructions will hold their first trader meeting on Thursday 11 January 3-4pm at Prahran Town Hall, (enter via Greville Street), which will include the early schedule of works. This and future meetings will be accompanied by printed updates for traders unable to attend.

An Small Business Mentoring Services mentor will be available in the Cato Square information hub on the corner of Wattle and Izett Street on Wednesday 17 January 10am-2pm to meet with traders interested in their mentoring program.
