The streets surrounding Cato Square are being upgraded as part of the $60+ million underground car park and urban parkland project.
Upgrades are planned for the full lengths of Cato, Chatham, Izett and Wattle streets. When complete the streets will be upgraded with new footpaths, kerbing, road pavements, lighting, street furniture and landscaping.
To mitigate disruption to surrounding businesses and residents, the works have been broken up into ten distinct stages.
Further, during construction the streets will remain open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. This will be achieved by closing one half of a street at a time. Complete road closure will only be required for a short period to apply the final bitumen seal.
Construction of stage 1 - Cato Street (Commercial Road to Wattle Street) commenced on Monday 24 September and is expected to take 6-8 weeks to complete.
The street improvement works are scheduled to be complete by the time the urban parkland opens in late 2019.
