Spring holiday program: Kitchen Chemistry

Join our friends at Labcoat Learning for a kitchen chemistry workshop where you will learn what amazing science experiments you can make with things found in your very own kitchen! You'll be amazed at how easy it is to turn your home into a science lab!

Suitable for primary school aged children 5 to 12 years.

To participate in the session you will need:

  • A glass
  • A variety of different liquids from the cupboard/fridge, including:
  • Oil
  • Water
  • Cream
  • Soy sauce
  • Cordial syrup
  • Honey
  • A plate
  • A spoon
  • Lemon or lime: either fresh (works better) or juice from a bottle
  • Baking powder
  • Icing sugar
  • A plate
  • Milk (full cream works best)
  • Cotton bud
  • Detergent
  • Food colouring (a variety if you have it)
  • A dropper, pipette or straw (to make it easier to put a drop of colour on at a time).
  • Small Ziploc bags
  • Spoon
  • Bicarb soda
  • Vinegar
  • A large bowl to put it in to contain the mess!

Bookings are required. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult while attending this event.

Please note, this event will be presented online via Zoom. To join you will need an internet-enabled computer, tablet or smartphone. The Zoom meeting ID will be sent to the email address you registered with one hour before the start of the session.

How to use Zoom

On your computer

1. Click on the link in the event confirmation email you received after registering and you will be prompted to download and install Zoom.
2. Enter Meeting ID or link, and the Password in your event confirmation email.

On your tablet or smartphone
1. Download the ZOOM Cloud Meetings app from your Apple App Store or Google Play Store prior to the workshop.
2. Enter Meeting ID or link, and the Password in the event confirmation email sent to you after registering.
