South Ward Councillor Steve Stefanopoulos was re-elected as Mayor of Stonnington at a Special Council meeting on Thursday 8 November.

Mayor Stefanopoulos served as East Ward Councillor from 2004 until 2008 before he was elected as South Ward Councillor in 2016 and is now looking to build on the achievements of his first term as Mayor.

“I’m proud of what I achieved in my first term and it is an honour and privilege to be re-elected,” Mayor Stefanopoulos said.

“I’m grateful to my fellow Councillors for their faith in me and the opportunity I’ve been presented.

“Over the last 12 months, I’ve met with a range of community organisations in Stonnington who are doing incredible work and I am committed to working and partnering with them to continue to ensure Stonnington remains a place that people want to call home, work in or visit,” added Mayor Stefanopoulos.

Mayor Stefanopoulos has lived in Stonnington for more than 40 years and is passionate about preserving its character, heritage and liveability.

“There are a number of exciting projects underway and starting soon – the transformation of Prahran’s Cato Street car park into an urban parkland is progressing well and the redevelopment of our historic Prahran Town Hall will start next year,” said Mayor Stefanopoulos.

“This is complemented by the commercial investment that’s happening on our wonderful Chapel Street that is Melbourne’s best area to shop and dine.

“In East Ward we’re in the masterplan stage to provide much needed facilities for netball and basketball, and we’re upgrading facilities for the Chadstone Bowls Club and other sporting groups who use Percy Treyvaud Memorial Park in Malvern East.

“I can’t wait to get back to work,” added Mayor Stefanopoulos.
