Press Release | 13 February 2018
Respected journalist and television favourite Lisa Wilkinson will be our guest speaker at the City of Stonnington International Women’s Day lunch on 8 March.
City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Steve Stefanopoulos said supporting International Women’s Day (IWD) is one of the many ways Council actively encourages and promotes equality.
“Stonnington is a strong supporter of women in business and leadership and we are very excited to have inspirational guest speaker Lisa Wilkinson at this years’ IWD lunch,” he said.
“The theme for IWD 2018 is #PressForProgress on gender parity which unfortunately the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report has said is still over 200 years away.
“Our IWD lunch is an opportunity for women, men, residents, business owners and entrepreneurs to celebrate the significant contribution women make to our community and hear Lisa talk about her successful career and why she thinks standing up for what you believe in is so important.”
Lisa Wilkinson became the youngest ever editor of a national Australian magazine at the age of 21, and went on to forge a very successful career in journalism and publishing, before becoming a popular and respected radio and television presenter.
Lisa is also a mum and mentor to young women and in 2016 she received a Member of the Order of Australia for her significant service to print and broadcast media; as a journalist and presenter; and to a range of youth and women’s health groups.
In late 2017 Lisa left the Today Show after 10 years co-hosting the program to take on a role at Network 10’s The Project.
“Last year our inaugural IWD lunch sold out in record time, so I would encourage anyone wanting to join me at this year’s event, to book their tickets early,” Mayor Stefanopoulos said.
