City of Stonnington residents can be confident their recycling will continue to be sent for processing, following Council’s recycling contractor, Cleanaway, appointing Visy as their resource recovery operator.
Since recycler SKM Pty Ltd announced late last week that they had suspended accepting materials at their resource recovery sites Cleanaway, and Council staff, have been working to secure a contract with an alternate company to accept Stonnington recyclables.
This afternoon, Cleanaway confirmed recycling company Visy has been appointed and, from Monday, all City of Stonnington recyclables will be delivered to Visy’s Springvale processing facility.
City of Stonnington Chief Executive Officer, Jacqui Weatherill is pleased an agreement is now in place that will see the city’s recycling service unaffected by the recent closures.
“It is very good news an agreement has been secured with Visy that will allow us to continue providing a genuine recycling service to our community”, said Ms Weatherill.
“The new processing agreement with Visy means we will not be forced to dispose of recyclables in landfill, which was the case with previous SKM closures.
“We are now looking forward to providing our community a long-term, reliable recycling service, without the uncertainty that has plagued us in recent times.”
