Council’s year-long, multi-million dollar redevelopment of the Gardiner Park sportsground, pavilion and surrounds is complete, with the improvements to be recognised at an official opening on 20 July.
Following local community and sporting club feedback, Council adopted the Gardiner Park Concept Plan in mid-2016 and, by mid-2017, the final concept was ready for implementation.
Work began on-site in 2018 when contractor, Polytan Asia Pacific Pty Ltd, transformed the Gardiner Park oval into a high quality, all weather synthetic sportsground for local AFL, soccer and rugby competitions. The new synthetic surface ensures the oval is suitable for year-round use, both for the casual user and organised groups.
Watch the oval transformation:
A new pavilion in the south west corner of the park, provides a purpose-built home for local sporting clubs - the East Malvern Junior Soccer Club, Melbourne Rugby Union Football Club and Old Melburnians Soccer Club.
Complementing the oval and pavilion works is new training standard floodlights, improvements to the park’s drainage system, a perimeter path to the oval, upgrades to the playground, barbecue and picnic areas, and landscaping across the park.
The Gardiner Park redevelopment offers much-needed increased capacity to accommodate the growing number of adults and children participating in local sport, and supports Council’s commitment to providing quality recreation and sporting facilities for the community.
