East Ward Councillor Glen Atwell is a passionate advocate for accessible and inclusive play spaces for families and carers of children of all ages and abilities.

“I am very pleased that Council has provided additional funding in the 2019–20 financial year to improve opportunities for children of all abilities to enjoy Council playgrounds”, said Cr Atwell.

As part of the annual playground renewal program, Council has provided funding to improve access and provide playground equipment that will expand opportunities for children with a broad range of abilities.

“This program will build on initiatives that started last financial year, which saw improvements made at Milton Gray Reserve, Waverley Park, The Rialto Reserve, MacFarlan Reserve, and Darling Gardens – encouraging social interaction and inclusion for everyone,” said Cr Atwell.

Council has also allocated a further $250K this financial year to replace the playground at Central Park with a new accessible and inclusive playground. The playground will provide opportunities that cater for a wide range of abilities and ages.

“This investment by Council will ensure that our playgrounds are interesting, challenging and stimulating, and provide opportunities for children of all abilities to participate, exercise and interact with others.”
