Applications now open for Stonnington Environmental Champions program
Published on 30 June 2020
Residents and community members are invited to apply for the City of Stonnington’s new Environmental Champions program.
The 10 week program, beginning in September, offers training and support to develop leadership and project development skills and deliver local environmental projects.
City of Stonnington Mayor, Councillor Steve Stefanopoulos, said this will further build on the momentum of the City of Stonnington declaring a climate emergency earlier in the year.
“This is a fantastic new program that will develop local leaders, providing them with the skills, confidence and networks to create real positive environmental change within our community.
“We are in a climate emergency and business as usual cannot continue. We need transformational change.
“People living and working in Stonnington have told us clearly that they are worried about the impact climate change will have on their future. We want to develop and empower leaders within our own community.
“This requires us to all to work together – our community, schools and businesses, to take action to address the impacts of climate change and work towards a more sustainable future.
“This new program is an opportunity for our community to connect, take climate action and build resilience through grassroots action.
“We are looking for people who are passionate about the environment and sustainability and who are eager to make a difference.
“This is an opportunity to learn about your local environment, develop practical skills and join a network of passionate like-minded people.
“This program will result in a lot of great local Stonnington environmental projects, I can’t wait to see this program get started,” said Cr Stefanopoulos.
