December in Stonnington

The City of Stonnington is truly excited to share our inaugural So Soiree Festival program, which features performances across comedy, cabaret, circus and live music, truly celebrating the local art scene.
Presented in partnership with Melbourne Fringe for eight days, So Soiree will come alive with some of the best artists Melbourne has to offer. Some highlights include:
- From New York’s notorious club scene comes Welcome to Blunderland, drawing inspiration from the finest circus, cabaret, burlesque and variety. Be prepared for anything!
- Relive your favourite Glanc sketch at Josh Glanc – The Best Bits and find out why he was named one of comedy’s 'most exciting emerging talents' (The Age).
- From the people who brought you Neon and Can’t Face, Werk It – Tight Fit, is an all-new, high-energy, acrobatic comedy romp. An explosion of spandex and high-vis!
- Damian Callinan & Paul Calleja – The Wine Bluffs After intoxicating sold out audiences across the country, The Wine Bluffs are here to do what they do best: bluff about wine.
Other program highlights include the formidable Selina Jenkins who will perform her powerful, thought-provoking show BOOBS where she reveals her decision to undergo a voluntary double mastectomy.
Dave Thornton will take to the stage to perform, pondering over that pesky question that has stumped everyone the last 12 months: 'What have you been up to?' Where do you start? Everything… nothing… and whatever can be found in between, and the hilarious Cal Wilson will bring her engaging and witty stand-up comedy to the stage.
At The Parlour in Greville Street, we’ll also have an outdoor garden bar for people to soak up the festival atmosphere and enjoy DJ sets, and drinks you can feel good about from Munificent Wines. Munificent Wines is a social enterprise, with a commitment to donating 50% of profits to Sisterworks Inc. who support refugee, asylum seeking and migrant women. Munificent Wines' core values also include supporting local, independent businesses so these wines are exclusively available through independent bottle-shops, bars and restaurants.
Greville Street has really come alive with new additions to the streetscape with Fishbowl Fuel, Entrecote and Jono’s Piano Bar joining well-loved eateries like Ladro, Angus and Bon and White Oak Saloon.
Additionally, we’re really excited to share our Christmas plans.
As we slowly re-emerge from the world’s longest lockdown, we want to create a magical feeling across all of Stonnington. The exciting new program will transform Prahran Square and Malvern East’s Central Park into vibrant destinations for everyone wanting to celebrate Christmas experiences together this year.
Over 12 nights, Prahran Square will host the ‘Sights and Sounds of Christmas’ — a magical light and sound display incorporating the themes of Christmas through music and integrated lights and visual display. Illuminating the square like you’ve never seen it before, this extraordinary experience is set to be a spectacle for people of all ages. Playing regularly throughout the 12 Days of Christmas from 8:30pm every night, this is truly something you do not want to miss.
From pet portraits with Santa Paws, craft workshops, live jazz music and a silent disco, there’s something for the whole family!
And keep your ears open for some classy Christmas tunes from Prahran Square’s Pop-up Piano. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some easy lunchtime listening!
Malvern East’s Central Park will be home to an Insta-worthy series of neon characters on display for 10 days with the ‘Summer Lights and Christmas Brights’ experience. Venture through the gardens with your family and friends and discover these fun and playful installations, lighting up the gardens from dusk.
