'Feed Happiness' is an innovative and exciting new social media campaign which aims to improve the mental health of young people and families in Melbourne's Southern Metropolitan region through food and healthy eating.

Bringing together 19 organisations across Melbourne, the Feed Happiness campaign supports young people and families to choose healthier foods for good mental health.

We all want to eat delicious food that helps us to manage stress and boost mood. But with so many options it's hard to know what works best.

Feed Happiness provides support and resources to:

  • Increase your understanding of the link between food and mood.
  • Identify which specific foods can support better mood (to make options easy)
  • Build your knowledge and motivation to prepare and eat healthy foods
  • Create a space for connecting within the community and on social media, to encourage sharing and discussions about the connections between mood and food.

The initiative grew out of Victoria’s Covid-19 lockdown period and its impact on mental health. VicHealth surveying during the second pandemic wave found that 17% of respondents were experiencing high psychological distress and 53% had low to medium life satisfaction.

"As a participating Council, we see this as an excellent opportunity to build on community interest in strategies to increase resilience and wellbeing", says City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Kate Hely.
