Glow Festival heads back to Stonnington
Published on 14 April 2021
If you’re looking for a free event the whole family will enjoy then look no further than the City of Stonnington’s annual Glow festival that will be popping up at locations across the city.
Glow 2021 launched last weekend at Rockley Gardens in South Yarra and will be lighting up outdoor spaces in Prahran and Malvern East for the next four weekends.
Announcing the 2021 festival, City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Kate Hely welcomed the family-friendly Glow back for its seventh year.
“Since first appearing in 2014, the annual Glow Festival has become a family favourite and a ‘must do’ on Stonnington’s community event calendar,” said Cr Hely.
“Like so many things in the past twelve months, this year we’ve broken with tradition and have opted to present Glow as a pop-up series.
“Where in previous years Glow was a five-day festival at one location, this year the festival will pop up at a new location each week, with new illuminated artworks on display.
“This new take on Glow means we are essentially presenting five unique light and sound festivals over five weekends.
“With cool, clear nights upon us, I encourage everyone to rug up and head out in the evening to enjoy Glow – a wonderful experience for the whole family and another reason why our city is such a great place to live and visit.
“The spread of locations and weekends gives the perfect excuse to combine a night outside with a meal and drink from one of Stonnington’s wonderful bars, cafes or restaurants.
“If you’re headed to Central Park, try the great venues near the corner of Wattletree and Burke roads. If you’re checking out the Prahran exhibitions, head to Greville Street for our on-street dining pop-up before that wraps up at the end of April, or pick somewhere on Chapel Street that you’ve never been to before.”
The Glow Pop-Up Series features five distinct large-scale contemporary art installations. Illuminated and interactive, each installation will bring light, colour and adventure to open spaces across Stonnington.
Installations will be on display from Thursday to Sunday and can be viewed at any time nightly from 6pm to 10pm.
From ancient guardians, to colourful insects and otherworldly characters, the Glow illuminations are a feast for the eyes and senses.
